Many consider the combination of ‘4K’ UHD resolution and ~32″ screen size to be very attractive, providing a strong pixel density for detailed visuals and excellent ‘desktop real estate’. The Philips 32M1N5800A provides this with a focus on high refresh rate and vivid and consistent colour output. HDMI 2.1 is included, offering support for ‘4K’ UHD @120Hz for new generation games consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This model belongs to the Momentum 5000 series and offers the distinctive ‘claw’ style stand base seen on some of the other models in the series. The bottom bezel is matte black plastic, whilst the top and side bezels have a dual-stage design. This includes a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus slender hard plastic outer rim. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

The monitor adopts a 31.5″ IPS-type panel with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. This model is most likely based around the Innolux M315DCA-K7B AAS panel. The monitor supports Adaptive-Sync, allowing technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible Mode’ to be leveraged – with a 48 – 144Hz VRR range plus LFC. A light to very light matte anti-glare screen surface is employed, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour is specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 500 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 124% sRGB gamut. The monitor includes a factory calibration using its sRGB emulation setting, with a specified DeltaE

A ‘LowBlue Mode’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting is included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. ‘SmartUniformity’ is also included, a Uniformity Compensation (UC) setting designed to even out brightness at various points of the screen. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (approach with caution) alongside a 1ms MPRT response time using the included ‘MPRT’ strobe backlight setting. ‘Low Input Lag’ is also specified. The stand attaches centrally and can be easily removed with the included quick-release mechanism, revealing 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The stand offers full adjustability including height (130mm or 5.12 inches) and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 DP 1.4 ports, a 3.5mm audio output and 4 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (2 with BC 1.2 fast charging) plus upstream. 2 x 5W speakers and 2-device PbP is supported.

Matte black rear
